Fox cancels That `70s Show
January 19, 2006
Forget about seeing Malcolm in middle age. And "That '70s Show" won't grow up to be "so 1980." The Fox network has whacked both aging sitcoms, wishing them well in the afterlife of syndication. As for "Arrested Development?" The award-winning comedy-without-viewers (averaging 4.1-million viewers nightly, less than other shows that have been canceled) is still hanging on, barely.
"Malcolm in the Middle," starring 20-year-old Frankie Muniz as a high school student, will end May 14 after seven seasons and 151 episodes. Among the factors, Muniz has gotten too old, Liguori said. And That 70s Show airs its final (and 200th) episode May 18. Former stars Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher may return for the finale, he said.
Isaac Hayes appears on That '70s Show
November 15, 2005
Isaac Hayes will go back to the '70s when he guest stars on "That '70s Show." Hayes will begin shooting next week on an episode that is scheduled for next spring, the Fox network announced Monday. "That '70s Show" airs Wednesdays (8 p.m. EST). Hayes will appear in an episode in which Fez, played by Wilmer Valderrama, tries to create a hipper persona for himself at the beauty salon where he works. While at the salon, Fez has a fantasy in which Hayes shows up and performs a hilarious musical number, the network said. Hayes, who had a memorable 1969-75 run at Stax Records, has a new two-CD collection, "Ultimate Isaac Hayes Can You Dig It?" The album includes "Theme From Shaft" and "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." He is the voice of Chef on Comedy Central's "South Park."
Topher Grace plays villain in Spider-Man 3
October 3, 2005
Topher Grace and Sideways star Thomas Haden Church have inadvertently been confirmed as the new Spider-Man villains by Kirsten Dunst. After months of speculation about the actors behind the masks of the Spider-Man 3 bad guys - and the characters they'll play, Dunst, who is back to play Spider-Man's love interest Mary Jane, has let slip in an interview the identities of both the actors and their evil alter-egos. Speaking to website Zap2it.com, she says, "We have really great people as the villains in this film - Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace - Venom and Sandman... Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that." Dunst then reversed her claim, admitting Church will play Sandman and Grace, Venom.
